What is a blog?

A blog is a website that is normally maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. The word "blog" is a contraction of the term "web log". Entries in a blog are normally displayed in reverse-chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog. Blog has a looser meaning wherein the subject expresses his or her opinion or simply talks about something.

Many blogs are posted as online diaries and some provide commentary or news on a particular subject. A typical blog consists of text, images, and links to other blogs, and other media related to it's subject. Readers can leave interactive comments on a blog which is an important part of most blogs. Most common blogs are textual although some focus on art (artlog), photographs (photoblog), sketches (sketchblog), videos (vlog), music (mp3log), audio(podcasting), which is part of a wider network of social media. "Micro-blogging" is another type of blogging. It contains very short posts.
